July 16, 2026:

We are excited to announce that we have now upgraded to Pan-human Azimuth v1 as the default model in panhumanpy 1.0.0 (Python) and AzimuthAPI 1.0.0 (R). Results obtained through v1 may have minor differences from those obtained through v0. The key changes are:

  • Added a new cell type label: pulmonary ionocyte.

  • Added an “Unassigned” label to filter out lower quality data, in particular low-UMI cells and ambient RNA profiles.

  • Annotation confidence scores are now calibrated to better align with empirical accuracy.

We retain full backwards compatibility across all associated software, but recommend that users upgrade to v1 for all new analyses.

Users choosing to continue with the older model should explicitly specify this by passing "v0" to the model_version parameter (both in Python and R; see the tutorials and reference).
